I was surprised how more relaxing it felt to do makeup that early in the morning. I hope I get more jobs early in the morning like this. ;)

She only wanted to have a natural look which is quite popular for a nikah event. I didn't bother applying any makeup on her neck as she will be wearing tudong on the actual function.

She was worried about looking pale (which I find is a common worry amongst fair brides) and at the same time she wanted to be natural so I feel this look is good.

Quinn Fabray's look is very natural and fresh... and yes I think we've achieved this look inspired by her!

She used all her own make-up. She didn't have a whole ton of make-up but the colours that she had was just right for this look. The final look... All the make-up done in the class are done by the participants themselves. It's their first time trying out this look and so after practising I know it will only improve. I'm am soo loving this look....

And lastly, the certificate presentation. Feels funny giving away a certificate to my sister. oh and normally in these classes I can get really 'crazy' which gets the students all nutty too but this time round I have to say, my sister is perhaps the only person so far who is way, way, more crazier than me!!! Kali ani aku pulang gila oleh student..! LOL...

Je, it was ssooooo fun but your note taking just drove me up the wall...lol.. i'd be talking and then few seconds later she'd scribling and scribbling notes in her book....at times I just stopped talking, her hand would still be moving ... we were thinking, 'apa sajaaaa di tulisnya atuuuu....????' LOL....

So after the lesson, congratulations, you are now on the way to being nearly half the expert with make-up that I am.... wooohoooooo.... ;P

This is for those who would like to join Make-Up Classes. Please, please, please message me, call me OR email me -inform me any way you can- for your booking in advance (the latest a day before class day). Are we all clear with that???

Preparation for each class is done early and so no 'surprise' students on the day itself will be entertained. How can I? I would not have made provisions for any extras :P

Since I have a limit of 4 students per class it is important to inform me as soon as possible if you are joining to secure your place.

The goal is for every participant to gain as much make-up knowledge as possible within the time we spend in the lesson and so far that's what we've been achieving in past lessons. We plan to keep it that way ;)

This was a fast makeover but I'm loving the results.

She was happy with the result.

We talked her into having a makeover for her wedding anniversary and it was nice to give her special treatment on this day....

Out of the four 'Sex and The City' cast I always find myself attracted to Charlotte's look. I do like Carrie's style a lot though but Charlotte's character seems more polished and timeless which is what I like to see on women around here. It just works.

I've decided to have a class inspired by her too, all because this character Charlotte really does relate to many women here in Brunei. She has always wanted to get married (like sooo many girls around here), she is prim and proper (like 'some' girls I know), she has a daughter and most of all she believes in love.

This look is also very natural and fresh. Another great look for Hari Raya :)

Any GLEE fans out there?? There is one other reason why I love watching Glee apart from the singing of course... It's Quinn Fabray... I find her look so youthful and fresh.

Natural face and minimal makeup. Anyone want to have this look for Hari Raya?? Why I think this look is good for hari raya is because:

1) If you are going visiting house-to-house in our Brunei humidity you might want to wear a little less makeup but at the same time make the make-up that you do have on to stay.

2) Again, because of the heat, you may also want to have a fresh look which I think this make-up is.

3) Especially if you are a teenager, this look is simple enough for you to wear. And even if you are not a teenager, this look is so wearable it is definitely 100 times better than wearing NO make-up at all. (best reason*)

I know I've only just finished my last class, BUT I just had to plan out another make-up class a.s.a.p.

The last two classes I've been giving more emphasis on the eyes. This time I want to do something a little bit different.

I've been noticing that some women in Brunei do like to wear bright lipstick but could really do with proper technique application, and I do know a few women who would like to wear bright lipstick but aren't brave enough to put it on.

So my solution is, learn to wear it correctly and you can wear any bright lipstick you want.

Gwen Stefani's look is well known for her bright red lipstick and so our next class will be a look inspired by her!

In this class I'll be teaching make-up especially to wear with red lipstick or any other bright colour.

Everytime I ask my brides and other people what eye make-up remover they use, I always get all sorts of brands given to me. And why I ask them this is because sometimes I can still see traces of black pencil under their eyes or on the lids and it gets so annoying...!!

This is a simple solution, in my opinion. I personally use Johnson's baby oil myself all because it really, really does take off even the most stubborn mascara... and it's super cheap, so you can use as much as you like.

So all you need to remove any eye make-up is some baby oil and cotton. Swipe it over your eye make-up, repeat if necessary, and it should should all me gone! Like magic!!

What to bring, What to do?

As experienced from the last class, we felt it would be best if everyone came in wearing black so that the end result photos would show the makeup nicely. so yes....

1) Wear a BLACK top.

2) Bring all your own makeup so we can choose from your existing kit the makeup which is close to what the Kim K look is. Any other additional makeup needed will be provided "on loan" by me... so really, don't worry about what you have or don't have.

3) Be as punctual as possible. Learning this look will take a bit of time and we certainly do not want to rush. I need to show you how to wear false lashes if there is time at the end.

4) Take notes during class as a reminder to yourself of all the steps done. ;)

Our classes are very fun and chilled.... if you want to learn this look just join the class, doesn't matter if you feel you don't look like Kim K, heck who does?!?! Just come to learn the look and see the difference....

This is my first attept at fixing 'Pakaian Brunei' on with a tudong. I'm only used to working with hair when it comes to 'Pakaian Brunei' so for this session I was quite unsure of how the result would turn out.

Well, considering this was my first try at this tudong thing, and it was one of the most slippery tudongs to even use for this sort of thing, I'm quite pleased. I'm sure the next one that I do will only get better. :)

One thing I can clearly see when we were getting these shots taken.... confidence of these two were sky rocket... seriously....and the energy was radiating positivity! I even said to them, "Oh no! You guys look better than me now!!" (which is, in my way, a huge compliment...LOL)

Ran in for a few shots and only after did I realise I had only done up one side of my face during the demo! Note to self.... complete both sides of my face..! hehe.. :P

What a fantastic session!

Asmah Husaini and Lena Saji with their certificates. OH! And this is a first also, first time giving out certificates....I normally don't but this time, I just HAD too, Asmah sms'd me the night before and requested for a PINK certificate. And then I thought about it and decided, it just wouldn't be complete without it!

There I am presenting the certificate to Asmah Husaini. Wow I just love this sort of formality...it really does give the lesson a seal of approval kinda thing.... :D

Yaayee...! You are now equipped with knowledge that will take your look further than you've ever expected.... hehhehe.. ;)

*sigh* I am just...so proud... hehhe.. Y'knw even though our session was about 2-3 hours, I actually feel like it was a full 2-3 years course ...yknw..like a diploma course or something! haha.. and now after all those years we've pulled through and made it....so rewarding! hehhe (great imagination huh?!)

*sigh* I am still on a slight high from my last makeup class. It was amazingly fun, especially for me because this time I had two students, normally I just have the one....then we end up gossiping about stupid things...!! LOL :P

The other fabulous difference with this class is that I had a lovely volunteer cameraman who willingly offered to stick around for the duration of this girlie session to take pictures of us! Apart from the occasional snickering from him when we talk about hiding flaws, he was excellent...hahaha.

So this is my baby, My Pink Room. I love, love, love this room so so so so much. I never let anyone in here unless they're going to appreciate the pinkness of it all...!! This actually is the first class I've held in this room. Normally I'd be having the lessons in my dining room or just outside this room on my upstairs floor of the house. So yea... very special preparation this time round!

OOoooohh... So That's How It Feels Like...!

Today I woke up and I thought, I just gotta blog about this one dream I had last night!! OMG!! I don't normally bother to blog about my silly dreams, and yes I have many, many weird dreams when I'm asleep! But this one really made me feel so 'lost'..! lol

Okay, it starts off with me getting married... but I don't know, I may have been re-marrying (nauzubillah) coz my sons were in the dream too.. oh well.. wateverrrrr... weirrrd to start with already. Anyway, I had on my wedding dress which I wore for my actualy wedding... Gold songket. Everything was almost the same set up as my wedding day back in 2006. But the only one difference was that I had not booked a makeup artist!!

WTF..!! Not booked a makeup artist...!!!??!! That is soo unlike me!! That would have been the first thing on my list.! Anyway... story goes... I'm all dressed up and in my wedding dress i'm thinking 'who should I call, which makeup-artist...??' I wanted to call my makeup artist I had used for my actual wedding but in my dream I did NOT have her contact number!

My mind went through a whole list of makeup people that I know. Mostly guys which at the time I was thinking ..Ive never had a male do my face before and I'm not about to experiment on my wedding day! Arrrghh!! Another list of makeup artists went through my mind and I was thinking, no no no.. If I had time for a trial then probably yes.. lots of things running through my mind. Luckily I wasn't all in a panic coz I told myself... if I can't think of anyone I'll just do my own makeup.

I found it hard to choose a makeup artist all because I didn't want to look OVERLY done up, y'knw, I didn't want to look like a stage performer. I wanted to look flawless and at the same time beautifully and naturally enhanced. I wanted to still look like me but just with a bit more 'twinkle in my eye' special. *sigh* I found myself saying, if i could only hire myself ..hahha.. coz I didn't want to think about makeup on the actual day, coz I believe a bride should just be completely relaxed.... zero worries.

So in that dream, yea I couldn't find a last minute makeup artist.... and yes that happens in real life too! Miraculously, in my dreams, my makeup bag turns up and I find myself applying makeup for my own wedding.

Then the most bizzare thought entered my mind while I was doing my face, 'This is probably how Kate Middleton felt when she did her own makeup for her Royal Wedding'... seriously, unbelieveable!

So when I woke up from this dream this morning I felt kind of lucky that I knew a thing or two about makeup. If I didn't my 'wedding' day would have been 'MAKEUPLESS!!!" *GASP* And then I thought about the brides that I do makeup for... Yea, I get what look you're looking for your wedding day. You wana look like yourself but just slightly more elegant...right?? ;) hehehe..

This is the second time I've done 'performance dance' makeup for her. I was actually quite excited to do this one for her because probably I wanted to see how she would look in a darker shade of lipstick. :D

I used a bit of glitter liner on the eyes to add a bit of sparkle.
MAKEUP STORE 's Glitter Liner is what I used here.

The lipstick colour I picked out was to match the big flower in her hair.

I also love the eyelashes used here... another reason why I was looking forward for this makeup session. It's a nice change from wedding makeup.

White Bra

Yes.. 'White Bra' is the title of this post...Why?? Because it amazes me how quite a lot of brides out there do not realise that when you wear a white top you should NEVER wear a white bra. It will show very, very, very, very clearly...! You do NOT want that...especially on your nikah day.

I absolutely hate to use this picture as an example because I do LOVE Christina but seriously, who let her go out looking like this?!?! OMG! But this really does show what you will see if you have a white bra underneath a white top. DO NOT do this on your wedding day or any day for that matter! Just doesn't look right.

So instead, when you have a white dress to wear, have on a skin tone bra on. Anything light tan will do. And keep the pattern plain.... don't go all lacey and fancy, just a plain smooth skin coloured bra is the best type of bra to wear together with a white top.

This was a fun photoshoot session... simple and straight forward.. Everyone was lovely to work with and the Photographer... wow.. quite talented... I like his style. He was very fast and extremely polite. He did not do a huge amount of editing... actually he only lightened and darkened the photos but NO major edit work goin' on here.. That should make it easier for my 'critics' to assess my work.. ;)

Seen these around...??? Bought a set while I was in Singapore and tested it out on my sister. I used the medium one on her.... still wanted to keep the natural look. Im not a HUGE expert on hair so I find using this 'Bumpit' very easy and hassle free...

WOW!! I love it..! This I have to talk about... She had a pengangun who for some bazaaaarrr reason had to be on the phone while the bride was getting her make-up done. I don't know about other people but for me, I absolutely can not stand listening to long, loud LOUD, did I mention LAAOOUD and negetive phone converstions while I need to concentrate. OMG..it was painful to listen to!!

BUT... I believe very much in the doa-doa and all the baca-bacaan the Penganguns do and so I'm happy at least I feel she did her part to give the bride 'seri'... coz the way i was doing her make-up...heck I don't even remember what I did....!! Kacau otak ku time atu.

Can't remember if I blogged about this one before...I've just been reading a few sites that talk about this issue in much detail. I do agree with most of what they are saying, actually agree with everything.

So anyway, I had this client come in to do Trial makeup (won't specify who so stop wondering)... she says she has no idea about makeup (as do so many brides out there)... and she said she's come in for trial so that I, me, the make-up artist can get to know her, her face and see if it's going to be ok. (?) right right right.... few things I had to point out to this dreamy bride... :P

First of all, I think trial bridal make-up is for YOU, the bride, to see if you like the make-up. Simple as that. Also to see if the Bride literally likes the Make-up artist or not, personality, energy wise etc. Had to re-direct dear bride and say, you are the important person on your wedding day, you have to be the happy one. And just as I expected, she was kind of blur about what she wanted... which was all more the reason to come in for trial make-up.

Secondly, she asked how long it would take. For me, I like to take the most minimum..1 hour, but best 1.5 hours, for me. Hate to rush..ok :P Since it's bridal make-up trial I would be doing what I do for an actual wedding scenario...right??!?!? This dear innocent bride thought that the trial wud take a snap of a finger to do.. aha..yeap. I say time and time again... "You can't rush art..!". So had to explain some more...trial if you jus want to see the make-up artist's ability, yea you can just ask for quick makeup job...watever right. But if you would like to see your potential wedding look and all.... should ask for the wedding look, and that could take slightly bit more time.

Moving on along, explained to her further the real point of a trial make-up session...It's just so important to be clear. Okay you don't wear make-up, no idea about it, SOOO today, trial day, this is the time you can have the chance to see how you might look on the actual day. This is the only time you can judge the make-up work and be critical because on the big day, there's just no turning back.

Hate to sound all dramatic about it but it realy is true. There are just so many horror stories about make-up artists out there and so trial make-up sessions are kind of like the full proof plan of minimising dissappointment.

So aside from seeing if the make-up looks good on you, it also really gives you a chance to bond a little bit with the make-up genius...hehhe. I have generally enjoyed the company of all my brides, they have all been great...even the bridezilla ones weren't too bad when I think about it now..hahhaha

So my tips for finding the best make-up artist for you:

1) Do a trial make-up session

2) View previous work of the makeup artist.

3) Be yourself so that the make-up artist can communicate better with you, ie: its your wedding day so enjoy the experience.

4) In the trial session, this is the best time where you can express your expectations , say how you would preferably want to look like...etc etc..NOT on the wedding day...stress saja inda pedah. Wedding day the bride should just literally go on 'sleep' mode while everything is moving around them..relaaaax sajaaaa....

5) See how you feel around the make-up artist. If she/he is always in a rush or makes you feel uneasy then probably not the right energy you would want on your wedding day.

6) If you don't like what you see in the trial session...simply do not book the make-up artist.

7) If you like what you see, but don't like the make-up artist, keep searching but keep the current one on hold just incase you have no other choice. Coz seriously...you HAVE TO LOOK PERFECT!!!

The Bride is really the main person people with an opinion look forward to seeing. No pressure..... lol :)

Okay okay...I can explain this shot... by the time I was finished it was already dark and the lights at my place are all yellow so y'cant really see the actual colours....and we were, by this time, all in a frantic rush so I just couldn't take a decent picture. BUT she looked fabulous!!! She's only a beginner and won 3rd place in the competition....SO GOOD...!! It's the makeup too y'knw...hahahha :)

With eye-makeup you don't wana look too messy that people actually stare and you don't want to be too plain that in the end there was no reason to put it on in the first place.

1st MAKEUP CLASS : How to apply foundation and powder 'FLAWLESSLY'

After too much contemplation, I've decided to go ahead with makeup classes. So here it is, the first make-up class will be as follows:

Date: Friday 19th November 2010 (with a repeat class on Saturday 20th November 2010)

Venue: Near YMRM area, Simpang 100, Tungku Link, Brunei Darussalam.

Time: 11am - 1pm

Fee: $40

This will be a 'basic personal beginners level' class so no knowledge of makeup application is required. The makeup I will be showing is very natural, the kind of makeup you can do everyday, and the kind of makeup that will still give you a soft look.

Seats are limited. Each session can take 6-8 participants only.

Participants are to bring own make-up, brushes, sponges...basically everything you own that has to do with make-up, bring it.
